Michael Crichton on Robert Rauschenberg’s ‘Stoned Moon’ series

American born writer Michael Crichton (1942-2008) is well known for his adventurous thrillers and science fiction stories – Jurrassic Park, State of Fear, Andromeda Strain – and the medical television series ER. A great lover of art, Crichton built his own collection over many years. Following his death in 2008, many works from this collection went to auction at Christie’s, New York, in 2010: http://www.christies.com/features/auctions/0410/crichton/index.aspx.

Robert Rauschenberg was one of Crichton’s favourite artists. Below you will find a link to a copy of an unpublished draft on the subject of Rauschenberg’s Stoned Moon series (1969-1970), which Crichton forwarded to Ken Tyler many years after writing it. In this unfinished work we see another example of Crichton’s creative talents, combining his skills as a writer with his perceptive understanding of the artistic process.
